According to the study:
- 88 percent of U.S. households have mobile phones in 2009.
- Most still use traditional landlines, but that seems to be changing.
- In Q2 2009, more than one in five households reported being cell-only homes—a 16 percent increase over 2008.
- Two-thirds of households dropped their landlines and young adults started new households with just a wireless phone
- Approximately 15 percent of American households have smart phones.
- BlackBerry penetration rate is 8 percent, while the iPhone is 4 percent.
- Both phones appeal to higher income and education levels.
