ABI: 27% of U.S. mobile web users have clicked ads

Twenty seven percent of U.S. subscribers accessing the mobile web have clicked on mobile advertisements, according to a Feb. 2010 consumer survey conducted by ABI Research--by comparison, only 21 percent of users had clicked on ads when the analyst firm conducted a similar study in Dec. 2008.

BlackBerry Web consumption surges beyond 9-5 hours

BlackBerry users nationwide browse the Internet more outside of normal business hours, per a new study from Bango Inc. that may dispel the notion of that smartphone as only a working tool.

Data based on Bango traffic on BlackBerry devices indicate that 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. are the busiest times for mobile Web consumption, according to the mobile analytics and payments company. The growing availability of Wi-Fi is instrumental in this surge in off-hours Web usage.

Report: Nearly half of all new phones sport touchscreens

In March, 24 vendors introduced 51 new cellular handsets and four new USB dongles. According to the trends, the average screen size of handsets released in March was 2.64 inches, and fully 44 percent of the phones had touchscreens.

WPTV Uses iPhone News Alerts in Efforts to Identify Child

This story is a great example of how our station partners are extending their reach by using mobile.

Last Saturday afternoon, Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies picked up a young girl walking alone on the road. Because the child was hearing impaired, she couldn't tell the deputies her name or any other information.

WPTV put the word out and sent out a news alert to iPhone app users hoping to help identify the child.

The child was later identified and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reported that calls came in after local media websites, including WPTV.com, published their stories.

Android OS Exceeds iPhone OS in Q1

According to NPD Group, handsets running the Android OS accounted for 28 percent of the units sold to U.S. consumers in Q1 knocking the iPhone OS down to the No. 2 spot behind BlackBerry.

InsightExpress reports mobile ads are significantly more effective than online ads across several branding metrics. In a study of US mobile and online campaigns, exposure to mobile advertisements provided two and a half times the lift of online ads for ad awareness, for example, and a striking six times the lift in purchase intent.
