Nielsen: Cellular-Only Homes Increase, iPhone Vs. BlackBerry

Nielsen's 2009 Convergence Audit has some interesting results regarding the rise of cell-only households and the penetration of BlackBerry devices vs. the iPhone.

According to the study:
  • 88 percent of U.S. households have mobile phones in 2009.
  • Most still use traditional landlines, but that seems to be changing.
  • In Q2 2009, more than one in five households reported being cell-only homes—a 16 percent increase over 2008.
  • Two-thirds of households dropped their landlines and young adults started new households with just a wireless phone
  • Approximately 15 percent of American households have smart phones.
  • BlackBerry penetration rate is 8 percent, while the iPhone is 4 percent.
  • Both phones appeal to higher income and education levels.

These are only a few highlights from the study. Check out the PDF for more info.
