Verizon and Apple Engaging in iPhone Discussion

USA Today reports that Verizon and Apple are discussing the development of a CDMA-based iPhone in 2010. The discussions have been going on for a few months. A deal with Verizon would give Apple access to 80 million customers.

Just before 5PM ET today, Apple reported that the 1 billionth App was downloaded from the App Store.

3.8M iPhones sold in the last 3 months

On April 21, Apple reported that the company sold 3.8 million iPhones during the past three months resulting in $1.5 billion in revenue. That is a sizable increase compared to Q2 2008's 1.7 million iPhones.

Mobile Advertising Growing Despite Tough Economic Times

BuzzCity, a provider of global wireless communities and consumer services, recently issued its quarterly Global Mobile Advertising Index. According to the Index, the economy is having "little to no effect on mobile advertisers or user habits."

BuzzCity's mobile advertising network reaches more than 200 countries. It saw mobile web advertising grow by 11 percent over Q4 2008.

Mobile Advertising Interest Grows

According to an eMarketer article published today, evolving mobile technology is causing marketers to take more interest in mobile advertising. The article credits three main factors driving increased interest:
  • Improved Devices like the iPhone.
  • Better Networks (3G).
  • Richer Content.
